Overview

Vogel, Slade & Goldstein, LLP, founded in 1990, is one of the oldest firms in the nation to specialize in the representation of whistleblowers exposing fraud committed against the government by filing a lawsuit under the federal False Claims Act or analogous state statutes. As former Justice Department trial attorneys, the firm’s partners gained extensive experience handling False Claims Act cases on behalf of the federal government. For almost two decades, Vogel, Slade & Goldstein’s attorneys have handled some of the largest and most significant qui tam cases in the nation, winning millions of dollars in rewards for whistleblowers

Founding partner Robert Vogel (Stanford Law, J.D., ’85) has handled False Claims Act cases for more than twenty years: first, representing the United States as a trial attorney for the Department of Justice’s Civil Division, and since 1990, representing whistle blowers in more than sixty cases. Mr. Vogel has written and lectured extensively on the False Claims Act and is considered one of the leading authorities in False Claims Act and whistleblower law.

Principal Shelley R. Slade (Stanford Law, J.D., ’84), who joined the firm in 2000, served as Senior Counsel for Health Care Fraud in the Civil Division of the Department of Justice, handling policy and legislative matters and coordinating the Civil Division’s health care fraud enforcement work with other government agencies and the private sector. Ms. Slade, who was named one of Washington, D.C.’s top whistleblower lawyers by the Washingtonian Magazine, is on the Board of Taxpayers Against Fraud, the preeminent public interest organization in this field.

Principal Janet L. Goldstein (Harvard Law, J.D., ‘77), who joined the firm in 2007, was one of the founding partners of whistleblower law firm Phillip, Cohen & Goldstein (now Phillips & Cohen). A veteran trial attorney, Ms. Goldstein served for ten years in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, where she prosecuted major procurement fraud cases, and taught trial skills at Harvard Law School’s trial advocacy program and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.

In addition to its qui tam practice, Vogel, Slade & Goldstein represents businesses and organizations that are the victims of fraud, as well as terminated whistleblowers. The firm also performs internal investigations and compliance monitoring for companies as part of its fraud prevention and detection services.
